With the onset of the national exam period, there is a notable surge in tutoring requests. However, data released by Fixando this Tuesday reveal that more than half of the requests (54%) remain unanswered.
“According to an analysis by Fixando, 54% of tutoring requests made in the last month went unanswered, up from 48% recorded during the same period last year,” states a communiqué accessed by Notícias ao Minuto.
The platform points out that “this 8 percentage point increase in the non-response rate occurs in a context of a widespread teacher shortage, with approximately 24,000 students finishing the school year without a teacher in at least one subject, according to FENPROF.”
It is noted that while the demand for tutoring has slightly increased (+0.5%), the ability to fulfill these requests has diminished. Most tutors are active teachers who juggle these duties alongside their teaching responsibilities and, due to the overload, end up rejecting new requests,” the statement adds.
Fixando also notes, “another factor that may explain this limited availability is the high number of retirements recorded in the last school year: 3,981 teachers from basic, secondary, and early childhood education—the highest figure in the last decade.”
