An accident alert was issued at 09:06 in the Ribeira de Santarém area, according to the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Lezíria do Tejo.
Emergency response teams, consisting of nine personnel supported by three vehicles from the Sapadores and Voluntary Firefighters of Santarém, as well as the Public Security Police, responded to the scene.
The accident occurred in a north-south direction at a level crossing that “was in perfect working condition,” according to a source from Infraestruturas de Portugal.
By 10:00, train traffic was operating on a single track between the Santarém and Santana-Cartaxo stations.
