Raimundo accuses the Right of preparing an assault on Social Security.

“We know well what they want. PSD, CDS, Chega, and Iniciativa Liberal aim to divert the Social Security funds into their dealings, into the roulette of dealings. They are not thinking about the future; they are preparing today’s assault on Social Security,” stated Paulo Raimundo.

This is “a very old ambition of the entire right,” opened by “the Socialist Party,” said the PCP general secretary, speaking at a CDU lunch at Beja’s Volunteer Firefighters.

Paulo Raimundo warned that the right intends to “increase the retirement age” and eliminate early retirements while also wanting to “seize Social Security funds.”

“It’s not putting the fox in charge of the henhouse. They want to put the hen in the fox’s den,” he commented.

On World Social Security Day, the communist leader focused on the issue, reminding that Social Security in Portugal is “public, universal, and supportive,” and a “workers’ heritage.”

“Social Security is well and sustainable. The only problem is the 40 billion euros it holds in labor money, and it is these 40 billion that are prey to the appetite of the usual vultures,” he warned.

Paulo Raimundo also stated that those concerned with the sustainability of Social Security can support “the only measure that ensures it, which is more wages, more wages, more wages.”

In his speech, he also criticized the “peacocks, demagogues, and hypocrites” proposing cuts in support, noting that without social support, not 300,000, but 500,000 children would be living in poverty.
