Raimundo criticizes the “exchange of pleasantries” that distracts from the essential issues.

“We don’t need to trade barbs. What we need are proposals to improve people’s lives: wages, rights, an end to job insecurity, and respect for working hours,” stated Paulo Raimundo.

The leader of CDU (PCP and the Ecologist Party “Os Verdes” – PEV) made these remarks to journalists at the conclusion of a march that ended with a rally at the Seixal Fire Department, focusing on work-related issues.

When asked about statements from Pedro Nuno Santos recalling Passos Coelho’s governance to criticize AD, Paulo Raimundo expressed surprise at the comparison from the PS leader, a party that last year supported the State Budget of the Government led by Luís Montenegro.

Avoiding extensive comments, Paulo Raimundo described them as “barbs, soundbites, and clichés,” emphasizing his focus on the coalition’s proposals for the legislative elections on May 18.

The improvement in working conditions was a key highlight of the rally held that afternoon in Seixal, a municipality with a communist administration, attended by several hundred CDU members and supporters.

“If the power of labor prevails, the country moves forward; the majority moves forward,” he exclaimed to a crowded audience.

In the previous elections, CDU elected one deputy from the Setúbal district, Paula Santos, who is the parliamentary leader of PCP.

When questioned upon arrival by journalists if the various planned initiatives in the district during the two-week campaign reflect a fear of losing representation after May 18, Paulo Raimundo laughed.

“We are extremely committed to reinforcing and need Paula (Santos), Bruno (Dias), and Heloísa (Apolónia, PEV candidate) to return to the Assembly from the Setúbal district. We are committed to growth and advancing,” he explained.

The communist leader also refrained from discussing “arithmetic and numbers” regarding possible post-election scenarios, asserting that “the only way to strengthen the left in parliament to force left-wing paths is by empowering CDU.”

“This is an essential condition,” he declared, without addressing whether the party is open to reviving the “Geringonça.”
