Rain continues (and “more intense” in the North). Here’s the weather for Thursday

The recent days have been rainy across several districts of mainland Portugal, with weather alerts in effect since yesterday, Tuesday. What can we expect for tomorrow, Thursday?

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts precipitation to be “generally light.” However, it may become “more frequent and intense in Minho and Douro Litoral by the end of the day.”

The sky will be “mostly cloudy,” and the wind will blow “from light to moderate, predominantly from the southwest,” occasionally strong along the coastal strip north of Cabo Raso and in the highlands of the northern and central regions.

A “slight decrease in maximum temperature” is expected, and in the northern and central regions, there will be “fog or mist.”

This scenario will be similar in Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto.

Notably, according to information available on the IPMA website, on Thursday, the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, and Porto will be under yellow alert from 9 p.m. to midnight. On Friday, October 31, several districts will be under orange alert.

Faro, Sagres, Setúbal, Beja, and Évora will record a maximum temperature of 21°C. Meanwhile, Guarda will have the lowest maximum, at 14°C.

Nine Districts on Orange Alert Until Friday

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga will be under orange alert on Friday due to “persistent and sometimes heavy precipitation,” according to the IPMA, which previously stated that these areas were under yellow alert (the least severe on a scale of three).

According to information from the IPMA, released today at 12:39, three other districts—Santarém, Leiria, and Castelo Branco—will be under yellow alert on Friday.

Nine districts of mainland Portugal will be under orange alert (the second most severe) on Friday due to forecasts of heavy and persistent rain, determined today by the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA).

Cold Only Arrives at the End of the Month, For Now There’s Rain…

Weather forecasts for November, which begins this coming Saturday, suggest two very different fortnights.

According to Alfredo Graça, a geographer and editor-in-chief at Meteored Portugal (tempo.pt), November will be “divided into two parts concerning precipitation” and even temperatures, which will “remain above the average for the time of year in the first half of November,” decreasing only in the last two weeks.

Thus, it indicates that the last month of the climatological autumn is likely to “split into two parts, one defined by a strong Atlantic circulation and the other marked by a blocking pattern.”

According to Meteored Portugal forecasts, November will feature two very different weather fortnights. The early weeks will be marked by periods of rain, with temperatures above the seasonal average, while the latter half will see a drop in temperatures.
