Rain floods cars and subway. 366 incidents reported, mostly in Lisbon

The recent heavy rainfall across mainland Portugal resulted in 366 reported incidents, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC). The majority of these incidents occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, primarily impacting the municipalities of Loures and Odivelas.

A total of 1,357 operational staff and 497 land vehicles were involved in managing these occurrences.

The Odivelas station of the Lisbon Metro, which had been closed since the afternoon of Saturday, reopened to the public on Sunday at 6:30 a.m., marking the restoration of service along the entire Yellow line (Odivelas – Rato), as announced by the Lisbon Metro.

In a statement, the company highlighted that “entry to the station is via the upper atrium,” noting that “one access to the upper atrium and the road interface access to the lower atrium will be temporarily closed for repair works.” The statement also commended the efforts of its teams, firefighters, and other authorities involved in restoring public transport service at Odivelas station.

The Odivelas Volunteer Fire Department expressed their gratitude on Facebook for the “dedication and courage” of the operational staff who “stood by everyone’s side once again.”

Meanwhile, the Loures Fire Department described the situation as “calm after the storm.”

“Tremendous strength among the Loures Fire Department, various departments and services of the Municipality of Loures, Santo António dos Cavaleiros and Frielas, and the Loures Parish Council. With normalcy restored, we will rest until the next alert. For you, for everyone, stay vigilant,” the Loures Fire Department wrote on Facebook.

Numerous social media users shared videos of the floods caused by the intense rainfall. Some of these videos can be viewed below.
