The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued weather warnings that will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, due to “persistent and heavy rainfall, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts.”
In the Algarve, waves are expected to reach up to four meters high, arriving from the southwest.
All districts are currently under a yellow warning, the least severe of the three levels, primarily due to rain between 6 a.m. and midnight.
In the mountainous regions and the southern coast of the Madeira archipelago, strong winds are expected to accompany the rainfall from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with gusts potentially reaching 100 kilometers per hour.
The IPMA issues an orange warning when there is a “moderate to high risk weather situation,” whereas a yellow warning indicates potential risk for certain activities dependent on the weather.
