The week of October 20 to 26 will be characterized by rain and a drop in air temperature, according to the forecast by the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The agency detailed that next week, “precipitation is expected due to the passage of successive frontal waves in a westerly flow.”
“Precipitation will be more frequent north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain system, and may sometimes be heavy in Minho and Douro Litoral,” according to a statement released on Friday.
In southern regions, IPMA indicated that “there will be greater alternation between periods with and without precipitation, with generally weak rain in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve.”
Regarding air temperature, values will be “lower than those recorded so far.”
“Across the territory, the maximum temperature will reach values between 13 and 28 °C, and the minimum temperature will vary between 8 and 17 °C,” it stated.
As meteorologist Ângela Lourenço told Lusa agency, “Sunday will already be a day with rain practically all over the territory.”
“With this situation, we will have a temperature drop, especially in the maximum, on Sunday. On average, values may drop between 5 to 7 degrees, with some areas in the northern parts of the territory experiencing drops up to 9 degrees,” she added.
In the Azores, the scenario will be similar in most islands, while in Madeira, rain is expected to arrive forcefully only from Thursday. However, maximum temperatures will hover around 14 and 19 °C, while minimums will range between 10 and 12 °C.
Rain will return to mainland Portugal starting Sunday, a day when maximum temperatures may drop by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, meteorologist Ângela Lourenço told Lusa.
