Ran away without paying for 13 pairs of pants (worth 233€). Threatened with scissors.

A 36-year-old man was arrested by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), through the 1st Police Division, for the crime of post-theft violence. The incident occurred last Wednesday, October 29, at 7:30 PM, in the parish of Santa Maria Maior.

In a statement released today, the security force reported that, following a theft in a commercial establishment, the police were called to the scene, “where it was reported that a suspect had crossed the checkout lines without making the due payment.”

The man “attempted to flee” but was “intercepted in a public area.” However, “during the immobilization, he threatened the guards with a pair of scissors and a knife,” which were seized upon the police’s arrival.

The PSP conducted inquiries and “determined from the store manager that the individual had fled, taking 13 pairs of trousers, totaling 233 euros in value.” The items were “recovered by the security guards” and “were in a condition to be resold.”

A helmet, also stolen moments prior, was seized from the suspect.

The detainee was taken to detention facilities at the Lisbon Metropolitan Command to be presented to the competent judicial authority.
