“Não é não” echoed as a central slogan during a protest organized by a spontaneous group of seven women, joined by approximately 140 associations and collectives. The protest began at around 3:00 PM.
Representatives from political parties Bloco de Esquerda, Livre, and PAN attended the gathering, voicing their support to classify rape as a public crime. They also called for multinational platforms managing social networks to be held legally accountable for the sharing of images and videos documenting sexual crimes.
Today, protests are taking place in Lisbon and Funchal to express outrage over the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Loures by three social media influencers.
Rallying under the slogan “Violação Não se Filma, Condena-se” (Rape Isn’t Filmed, It’s Condemned), protesters are demanding justice in the case where the three influencers allegedly filmed themselves assaulting the underage girl in Loures and then shared the footage on social networks.
The three suspects, aged between 17 and 19, were apprehended by the Polícia Judiciária. However, a court released them, subjecting them to periodic check-ins and forbidding any contact with the victim.
The victim had expressed a desire to meet her TikTok idols, but the encounter turned into a harrowing ordeal in a building storage room, culminating in an alleged rape that was filmed and shared online.
Protests are being held in Lisbon, in front of the Assembleia da República, and in Funchal near the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira.
