A 42-year-old foreign national has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 27-year-old woman who was sleeping beside her four-year-old son in an apartment in Odivelas, Lisbon.
The crime occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, as disclosed in a statement from the PJ on Monday, September 1.
The suspect, residing abroad, was on vacation in Portugal, staying at a friend’s house, who invited a group of female friends to visit.
Among the group was a woman with her four-year-old child. The child eventually fell asleep, and the homeowner invited his friend to stay overnight with her son in his room before he left the house.
According to the PJ, the suspect later entered the room and took advantage of the fact that both were asleep to assault the woman, despite the child being next to her.
The victim, also a foreigner, left the premises with her child as soon as she awoke and filed a complaint with the Public Security Police (PSP).
The case was then handled by the PJ, who conducted an investigation and swiftly apprehended the suspect.
The man is scheduled to appear before the Loures Court for an initial judicial interrogation and the application of appropriate coercive measures.
