The cross-border fire, which ignited early Saturday morning in Montalegre, in the Vila Real district, was brought under control by 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority.
The fire started at 1:20 a.m. and spread in two fronts, one heading towards Spain. The Spanish news agency EFE reported that Portuguese and Spanish authorities were in contact to combat the fire.
