A recreational fisherman died today at Baleeira Beach in Sagres, located in the municipality of Vila do Bispo in the Faro district, after falling from a pier, according to a spokesperson for the Lagos harbor office.
Hugo da Guia, the Captain of the Port of Lagos, who was present at the scene, stated that the man, approximately 80 years old, fell from a pier, but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
The victim’s body was retrieved shortly after the alert was issued at 10:59 AM, and a doctor from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) declared him dead at the scene.
Approximately twenty personnel from the Maritime Police, the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos, the INEM, the Sagres Lifesaving Station, and the Lagos Port Authority responded to the incident.
