Paulo Raimundo expressed his position during a press conference following a meeting of the Central Committee of the PCP. He accused the PSD/CDS executive of implementing a policy that aims to obscure reality through a propaganda machine equipped with powerful means and tools.
“When tax justice is demanded, particularly with the reduction of VAT on electricity, gas, and telecommunications—measures with real impact on the majority’s lives—a smoke curtain of IRS is raised, which has no impact on millions of low-income workers and retirees, serving instead to pave the way for a reduction in IRC,” stated the PCP’s General Secretary.
In his statement, the communist leader also called for an “intensification of the struggle” against the Government’s decisions.
“A struggle where the interests of the vast majority are confronted with the minority that assumes ownership of everything,” he said, contrasting the current situation with “a path that requires the denunciation of capitalism, the root cause of injustices, inequalities, and exploitation.”
“A path that demands the end of the country’s submission to the war agendas of the United States, NATO, and the European Union and recognizes the State of Palestine. A path of exposing lies and demagoguery and firmly combatting reactionary concepts,” he added.
Before journalists, Paulo Raimundo also stated that the PCP is “committed” to the upcoming local elections, “uniting on a local level, around the CDU, the united and popular front that includes thousands of people without party affiliation and even voters and supporters of other political forces.”
Regarding initiatives undertaken by the PCP, Paulo Raimundo mentioned: “We have just conducted, in Lisbon and Porto, with thousands of participants, an important march under the motto Fulfill the Constitution – raise salaries and pensions. An action that concluded with the collection of over 140,000 signatures demanding this.”
