Reduction of the tax burden and increase of pensions among the conditions of Chega

“The Chega party is open to discussions regarding the State Budget and is willing to contribute to its design under five fundamental conditions,” stated André Ventura at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon.

Ventura emphasized the need for a reduction in the tax burden, a “permanent increase in pensions,” and an “increase in tax deductions concerning IRS for housing expenses.”

The Chega party also conditions its support on a “significant increase in budget allocation for combating crime and establishing order in the country,” alongside “a sustainable cut in expenses of ministries, political spending, and subsidy dependence.”

“From here, we will begin to determine whether there is a political majority or not,” he asserted.

Ventura denied that Chega is bound to approve the State Budget for 2026 following the government’s commitment to a greater IRS reduction in the upcoming budget, aligning with one of Chega’s demands.

“Chega is not bound, but there is a mutual responsibility here; it is evident that when measures are proposed and accepted, there is a mutual responsibility to continue implementing these measures,” Ventura highlighted, adding the importance of urging the government to remain committed to the proposed path and not deviate in the budget.

The Chega leader confirmed that a meeting between his parliamentary group and the government, as part of a series of meetings announced on Thursday by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, is scheduled to take place next Wednesday morning.
