It is expected to be paid by the end of the second week of September, in accordance with Article 3 of Decree-Law No. 134/2023, dated December 28, and Article 4 of Ordinance No. 67-A/2024, dated February 22, for the salary bonus applications submitted in 2024, provided the respective requirements are met, according to a note published on the AT website.
In August, the newspaper Público reported that the salary bonus, which should have been paid by the end of July, had not yet been disbursed, adding that the application form for new candidates to receive the support had not been opened.
On the Government’s page regarding the salary bonus, a message states: “Currently, new requests for the qualification enhancement salary bonus are not being accepted. The deadline for submitting requests in 2025 has not yet been announced,” as consulted today by the Lusa agency.
This incentive was created by the Government of António Costa in 2023 to allow young workers, up to the year they turn 35, to request a refund of tuition fees from the State as recognition for completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
The bonus is annually paid by the Tax and Customs Authority (by July 30 each year) for the number of years equivalent to the study cycle that led to the academic degree. For a bachelor’s degree, the amount paid is 697 euros, and for a master’s degree, it is 1,500 euros (in an integrated master’s degree, the years corresponding to the bachelor’s degree entitle one to 697 euros while the master’s part earns the same 1,500 euros).
