The Sindicato dos Trabalhadores dos Registos e do Notariado (STRN) has issued a statement highlighting concerns that ongoing issues have severely impacted the quality of service provided to the public, placing workers under undue emotional and psychological strain.
It cites examples of critical system failures in conservatories such as those in Arruda dos Vinhos and Caldas da Rainha, reflecting widespread challenges across the country.
The union underscores that these problems, which have worsened in recent weeks, are causing increasing tension with users, leading to unacceptable daily incidents of unrest, misunderstandings, threats, and hostility directed at workers.
STRN emphasizes that employees, like the public, are direct victims of the technological inefficiencies, especially during this critical vacation period marked by increased demand and limited human resources.
The union notes that these issues did not occur when the PEP was managed by the now-defunct Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF). Since its transfer to the Instituto dos Registos e Notariado (IRN), there have been constant and recurring failures without effective solutions from the management to normalize the system’s operations.
In response, the union urges the IRN’s Board of Directors to take urgent actions to resolve the issues, which impact service operations, significantly harm citizens, and place workers under psychological and emotional stress.
“The STRN will remain vigilant and active, demanding initiatives to resolve this serious issue and restore dignity to all workers in the sector,” the statement asserts.
The union also pledges to hold all entities responsible for maintaining and managing the technological applications accountable for any physical and verbal violence workers may encounter due to their inaction.
Additionally, the union intends to request clarifications regarding the severe system failures and the security that urgently needs to be promoted and implemented in the registry services.
