The search for the three missing fishermen from the boat that capsized on Wednesday off the beaches of São Pedro de Moel and Vieira de Leiria was stepped up this morning, according to the captain of the port of Nazaré.
“The searches that continued throughout the night are gradually being reinforced this morning. There has already been reinforcement with another Amarok vehicle from the SeaWatch project, Maritime Police patrols, drones and another Navy ship, which will join another that was in the area overnight,” the captain of the port of Nazaré told Lusa.
João Severino Lourenço also said that underwater searches would begin around 8am.
The team will also include the Nazaré Volunteer Fire Brigade, which will provide logistical support to the Navy divers.
The search for the three fishermen continued through the night with the NRP Setúbal, after the day ended without the divers being able to enter the wrecked boat off Marinha Grande.
The alert for the capsizing of the fishing boat “Virgem Dolorosa” was given at 04:33 on Wednesday to the local command of the Nazaré Maritime Police.
Three crew members died, 11 were rescued and three are still missing, all from Praia da Leirosa, in Figueira da Foz.
