The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) is investigating a macabre discovery made on the morning of Monday, July 21, in Amarante, in the Porto district, confirmed by authorities.
A man found bones, believed to be human, while cleaning land in Vila Caiz, in the municipality of Amarante.
The discovery was made around 10 a.m., as reported.
The man alerted the authorities, and military personnel from the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) were immediately dispatched to the location.
The investigation has since been taken over by the Polícia Judiciária of Porto.
Alongside the bones, boxers were also found.
The remains were collected and sent to the PJ’s Scientific Police Laboratory, where several tests will be conducted to confirm if they are human and to determine if a crime has been committed.
Inspectors are also trying to ascertain if there is any missing person in the region.
Recently, in July, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) was also investigating other bones found in the midst of a reed bed on Arco de Carvalhão street in Lisbon.
In that case, the bones were confirmed to be human. After the skeleton was autopsied, authorities concluded it belonged to a homeless person and showed no signs of crime.
