The agreement regarding the definition of minimum services was announced by the Directorate-General for Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT) following a meeting held on November 27. This meeting included representatives from the REN Group, the National Union of Industry and Energy (Sindel), the Union of Service Sector Workers (Sitese), and the Intersyndical Federation of Metalworking, Chemical, Electrical, Pharmaceutical, Pulp, Paper, Printing, Press, Energy, and Mines Industries (Fiequimetal).

According to the meeting minutes, the unions accepted the proposal put forward by REN, stating that the minimum services to be ensured during the general strike “should be necessary and sufficient to guarantee activity as it is performed on weekends or holidays.”

To ensure this, “employees necessary to maintain activity during these periods, specifically those scheduled under the shift and availability regime,” should report for duty.

The CGTP and the UGT have called a general strike for December 11, in response to the government’s proposed labor law reforms. This marks the first joint strike of the two union centers since June 2013, when Portugal was under ‘troika’ intervention.
