“We contacted the Judiciary Police, the authority responsible for the investigation, which will conduct on-site inquiries today to determine the causes of the fire,” stated Hugo da Guia, Captain of the Port of Lagos and Local Commander of the Maritime Police.
The Algarve Regional Command of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection reported that the alert was received at 9:59 PM on Sunday, noting that the fire caused no personal injuries, only material damage.
According to the Local Commander of the Lagos Maritime Police, the fire broke out a few hours after the restaurant had closed, with no one inside at the time.
Hugo da Guia further mentioned that the Maritime Police secured the area on Sunday night to allow the Judiciary Police to carry out their work, and the information collected by the AMN has been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The operations involved 29 personnel from various entities that are part of Civil Protection.
