The Cultural Heritage Institute announced today that the restoration project has been awarded to the company In Situ with a completion timeline of 330 days, aiming for a conclusion by the end of June 2026.
The official agreement was signed on July 30, initiating “preparatory works necessary for the execution of the project” at the monument located in Tomar, in the district of Santarém.
The BASE Portal, which centralizes information on public contracts in Portugal, published the contract announcement on August 12. Two companies bid for the project, which had a base price of 1.85 million euros.
The conservation and restoration work on the cloisters of the monument, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is part of a broader investment project. In February of this year, the Cultural Heritage opened a tender worth 3.6 million euros for the requalification and rehabilitation of new spaces in the Convent of Christ.
In this context, the Convent of Christ will also undergo rehabilitation of the Paço Henriquino, Alcáçova, and Castle, as well as a garden requalification, according to the Cultural Heritage source.
Throughout 2025, the monument will see two rehabilitation and requalification projects with a total budget of more than five million euros, fully financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
