The CP — Comboios de Portugal ensured road transport between Fundão (Covilhã) and Guarda for passengers affected by the suspension of train services between Covilhã and Tortosendo.
On Thursday, train circulation was also suspended on the Beira Baixa Line between Abrantes and Alferrarede, within the same municipality, in the Santarém district, starting at 12:00 due to a lighting post falling onto the track. The service was resumed during the afternoon.
The Beira Baixa Line provides a railway connection between Entroncamento (Santarém) and Guarda.
Due to adverse weather, several railway lines experienced disruptions, according to a source from IP.
On the Alentejo Line, which connects Barreiro (Setúbal) and Beja, traffic was restricted between Poceirão and Pinhal Novo, both stations located in the Palmela municipality, Setúbal district, due to subsidence of part of the track.
The Northern Line, linking Lisbon and Porto, faced significant disruptions between Entroncamento and Santarém, but remained operational in both directions. Meanwhile, the Western Line was closed between Louriçal (Pombal, Leiria district) and Amieira (Soure, Coimbra) due to a landslide.
These incidents were associated with adverse weather conditions affecting mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago due to the depression named Cláudia, characterized by heavy rain, strong winds, and maritime agitation, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
