
In April, retail trade volume saw an increase of 0.1% in the euro area and 0.7% in the EU, based on initial estimates from the European Union’s statistics service.
Among the member states with available data, the largest year-on-year increases in total retail trade volume were reported in Cyprus (7.7%), Estonia (6.2%), and Sweden (5.7%), while declines were seen in Luxembourg (-3.6%) and Slovakia (-0.1%).
In a month-on-month comparison with March, the highest increases in total retail trade volume were recorded in Poland (7.5%), Slovakia and Sweden (both 2.4%), and Belgium (2.1%).
The largest month-on-month declines in retail sales were observed in Germany (-1.1%), Malta (-1.0%), and the Netherlands (-0.4%).
In Portugal, the indicator grew by 2.1% compared to April 2024 and fell by 0.2% compared to March.
