“It is expected to be paid at the end of the second week of September, according to Article 3 of Decree-Law No. 134/2023 of December 28, and Article 4 of Ordinance No. 67-A/2024 of February 22, the salary award for applications submitted in 2024, provided the respective requirements are met,” reads a note published on the AT website.
In August, Público had reported that the salary award payment, which was supposed to have been paid by the end of July, had not yet been made, adding that the form for new candidates for support had not been opened.
On the Government’s page regarding the salary award, a message states: “At this time, new applications for the salary award for the enhancement of qualifications are not being accepted. The deadline for submitting applications in 2025 has not yet been announced,” as consulted by Lusa today.
This incentive was created by the government of António Costa in 2023 to allow young workers, up to the year they turn 35, to request the State to refund tuition fees as recognition for completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
The award is paid annually by the Tax and Customs Authority (by July 30 each year), for the number of years equivalent to the study cycle that led to the academic degree.
For a bachelor’s degree, the amount paid is 697 euros and for a master’s degree, it is 1,500 euros (in an integrated master’s, the years corresponding to the bachelor’s degree entitle 697 euros and those related to the master’s to the same 1,500 euros).
