The PSD will kick off its traditional Pontal Festival this Thursday at the Calçadão de Quarteira in Loulé, featuring a speech by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro.
Since assuming leadership of the PSD in 2022, Montenegro has used the political ‘rentrée’ to announce new measures for the country. Last year, at his first appearance in Pontal as Prime Minister, he announced an extraordinary supplement for the lowest pensions.
Chega has yet to define the details of its political ‘rentrée’, which in recent years has typically consisted of a dinner rally in the Algarve.
Among the party leaders debuting in ‘rentrées’ is the secretary-general of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, elected in June. Although without a formal event to mark the political restart, he will participate in the party’s Municipal Convention on September 6 in Coimbra.
Announced by José Luís Carneiro immediately after his election as PS secretary-general, the Municipal Convention aims to ensure that the party’s municipal candidates adhere to the values of liberty, equality, and solidarity.
Another leader making her ‘rentrée’ debut is the new president of the IL, Mariana Leitão, who will speak at the party’s traditional event to mark the political recommencement, the festival “A’gosto da Liberdade”, on August 30 in Albufeira.
The Livre party, which usually organizes an event in September titled “Os Setembristas” to promote idea debates, has not yet finalized its ‘rentrée’. It is expected to occur on September 6 and 7 in Porto.
As is customary, the PCP will mark its ‘rentrée’ with the Festa do Avante! on September 5, 6, and 7 at Quinta da Atalaia in Seixal. Before this traditional communist event, the party’s secretary-general, Paulo Raimundo, will lead various initiatives across the country, including a dinner rally this Friday in Vila Real de Santo António.
The CDS-PP has indicated that its ‘rentrée’ will take place on September 6 in Vale de Cambra, while the BE will once again host its traditional Socialism Forum from August 30 to 31 in Coimbra.
Among the speakers participating in this forum, besides the party’s coordinator Mariana Mortágua, are MEPs Catarina Martins (BE) and Marta Temido (PS), as well as former party leader Francisco Louçã.
PAN is still detailing its ‘rentrée’, but anticipates linking various events to the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the animal protection law, which will be marked on the weekend of September 13 and 14, starting with a conference in Lisbon on September 12.
The sole deputy of JPP, Filipe Sousa, has stated that his party will not mark any ‘rentrée’, as it “does not live on starts, but is always in motion”.
“We continue to work on the ground, listen, propose, and be present. September will just be another chapter of this mission,” he indicated to Lusa.
