Alongside the Portuguese comedian, other international highlights of the official Flip 2025 program include Mexican writers Cristina Rivera Garza and Dahlia de la Cerda, Spanish author Rosa Montero, Chilean Alia Trabucco Zerán, and Argentinians Dolores Reyes and María Negroni.
The final list of 14 international writers invited to the 23rd edition of Flip, one of Brazil’s premier literary events, was announced on Tuesday by the event’s organizers, who this year are paying tribute to poet Paulo Leminski.
The list of invitees demonstrates a strong presence not only from Latin America but also of women and authors noted for their struggles and work on feminist themes.
Besides the five Latin American writers, the list includes the Brazilian authors Lilia Guerra, Giovana Madalosso, Lilian Sais, and Alice Ruiz, widow of Paulo Leminski.
Also attending are French author Neige Sinno and Surinamese writer Astrid Roemer, renowned for their work on feminist topics.
Among the foreign guests for this year’s Flip are Swedish comic book author Liv Strömquist, Italian novelist Sandro Veronesi, and rapper Gaël Faye.
One of the most anticipated appearances is that of Israeli historian Ilan Pappé, director of the European Centre for Palestinian Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK, where he has been teaching since 2007.
Another eagerly awaited debate will feature Brazilian Environment Minister Marina Silva as the keynote speaker.
The event’s opening will be conducted by Brazilian singer-songwriter Arnaldo Antunes, regarded by Brazilian critics as a kind of heir to Leminski.
