Roads in the central mountain range of Serra da Estrela reopened to traffic

The access roads to the central mountain range of Serra da Estrela have reopened to traffic after being closed on Wednesday due to snowfall, said a source from Civil Protection.

According to the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection, in Guarda, road traffic was restored today, at 08:30, on sections 11 (Piornos – Torre), 12 (Torre – Torre) and 13 (Torre – Lagoa Comprida).

The road sections of the Serra da Estrela with the numbers 1 (Portela do Arão – Lagoa Comprida) and 2 (Lagoa Comprida – Sabugueiro) were reopened to traffic at 3:15 pm on Wednesday, the source indicated.

Due to the snowfall, car traffic on sections numbers 11, 12 and 13 had been banned by 00:00 on Wednesday, and later, at 6.15 am, traffic was cut off on sections 1 and 2.
