A 29-year-old man, convicted in Brazil for robbery and kidnapping, has been arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in Gondomar under an international arrest warrant, the authorities announced in a statement sent on Friday to Notícias ao Minuto.
According to investigators, the events took place in March 2017 in a city in the state of Santa Catarina. The arrested man, along with two accomplices, broke into a residence, overpowered the victims present, and stole various items.
During the robbery, they threatened the residents with a firearm and forced them into a bathroom where they were locked up.
Subsequently, the assailants fled with the stolen goods in one of the victims’ cars.
One of the assailants, who was caught and sentenced to six years and five months in prison, eventually escaped to Portugal where he was living legally.
After being located and detained by the PJ, the man was brought to a preliminary judicial hearing at the Porto Court of Appeal, which ordered that he remain in preventive detention until he is extradited to Brazil to serve his prison sentence.
