The album “O Rapaz da Montanha,” released in April, is considered by the musician as his “most Portuguese” album yet, “very different from the last ones.” Its creation was influenced by the musical universe of the 1970s in Portugal.
“In this record I knew I had a path I needed to try to follow,” he stated.
The origin of this new work lies in the song “Cadeira Preta,” composed around three years ago with Ana Carolina Costa, who wrote most of the album’s lyrics.
“I had an image in my head of an album that I could make following that song. I think it was the first time that’s happened to me,” he recounted.
The composition process with Rodrigo Leão and Ana Carolina, who “knows the whole composition process better,” ended up being different than usual.
“This time, instead of conveying melody with the sound of a piano, I did it by singing. It ended up being the working process for these songs, me trying to experiment with the voice,” he remarked.
Rodrigo Leão includes “O Rapaz da Montanha” in the project “Os Portugueses,” which began with the soundtrack he created for the documentary “Portugal, um retrato social,” authored by António Barreto and directed by Joana Pontes.
In the coliseums, accompanied by Ana Vieira (voice), Viviena Tupikova (violin), Celina da Piedade (accordion), Carlos Tony Gomes (cello), Bruno Silva (viola), Frederico Gracias (drums), João Eleutério (multi-instrumentalist), and José Peixoto (guitar), Rodrigo Leão will perform on stage at the piano.
