Roof collapse on building in Moita leaves 20 homeless and 19 displaced

A representative from the Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection in the Setúbal Peninsula indicated that the 20 displaced individuals are being accommodated at the Vale da Amoreira Basic School 2/3 gymnasium, transported there by the Moita Town Hall vehicles.

These individuals are receiving meals from a private social solidarity institution (IPSS) in Moita, with collaboration from the municipality’s Social Action service, the representative further mentioned.

The 19 other displaced individuals will stay with relatives, the source added.

All operations are being monitored by the Mayor of Moita, Carlos Albino, and the municipality’s councilor António Pereira, according to the official.

It was stated that an “urgent inspection of the building, which is currently off-limits,” will be conducted on Monday.

The “roof collapsed onto the stairway of the three-story building, which has been evacuated,” according to the sub-regional command.

The roof collapse of a building in Vale da Amoreira, Moita, Setúbal district, affected 39 residents today, with no injuries reported. Authorities are determining the total number of displaced persons, stated a Civil Protection source.

According to Civil Protection, the alert was issued at 16:31.

Eleven emergency personnel from Moita’s fire department, the Municipal Civil Protection Service, and the PSP were deployed to the scene, supported by three vehicles.

Social Action Service members from Moita Town Hall were also present at the site.
