
Data from the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association (AHETA) revealed a provisional overall decrease of 3.4% in hotel occupancy for the month of March compared to the previous year.
However, the average occupancy rate stands 0.2 percentage points (0.4%) higher than in 2019, prior to the tourism sector being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the monthly report on the sector’s performance, the most significant year-on-year growth was noted in the Canadian market, which increased by 1.0 percentage points, followed by the Dutch market (+0.5 percentage points) and the German market (+0.4 percentage points).
The British market saw a decline of 1.6 percentage points, while the national market decreased by 1.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
As per AHETA’s findings, the average stay in Algarve’s accommodation units was 4.3 nights, marking an increase of 0.4 percentage points from the same month in 2024.
In March, the Norwegian market topped with the longest average stays at 12.8 nights, followed by Swedish tourists at 9.6 nights and Dutch tourists at nine nights, according to the business association.
