The deceased has been identified as Paula Macedo, an RTP director in her “60s.”
The fire brigade reported receiving the alert at 6:25 PM and are still uncertain about the cause of the fire.
“The Judiciary Police are investigating,” they stated.
Present at the scene were the Ericeira and Mafra Volunteer Firefighters with 35 personnel and 14 vehicles, the National Republican Guard, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), which declared the death at the site.
Numerous RTP employees have expressed their condolences on social media throughout Thursday for the loss of Paula Macedo.
Rosário Vivaldo from the RTP Museum noted that Paula Macedo was “the director of ESC2018 (Eurovision Song Contest), the Multicamera Director at RTP, and the first woman to hold these positions at the Eurovision Song Contest.”
“She was a vibrant woman, always smiling, with so much left to give. Very sad!” wrote Rosário Vivaldo on Facebook.
Meanwhile, presenter Tânia Ribas de Oliveira expressed on Instagram that she lost “a friend.”
“Today we all lost Paulinha. There was so much to say about you, Paula. Only good and beautiful things. I am incapable today, I am not. My heart cries, but I only hear your laugh, see your light, hear your voice. I will forever cherish our conversations, our hugs, your good and happy energy. Your smile. Your hug. Our friendship. I will miss you dearly,” added Tânia Ribas de Oliveira.
