Between November 17 and 30, Reininho, a 70-year-old iconic figure in national pop-rock, participates in the project ‘A quarta parede’ with Leonardo Pinto, a 17-year-old from Pombal and mentor of the indie folk-rock band Thispage.
The initiative, designed to bring together established national artists and artists from the district of Leiria, launched in November 2024, featuring Salvador Sobral and First Breath After Coma at Casa Varela – Centro de Experimentação Artística, where they worked on a joint project.
The inaugural experience resulted in a live show set to be replicated on January 13 and 14, 2026, at Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon.
The second edition of “A quarta parede” returns a year later, once again pairing two artists with distinct backgrounds, styles, and trajectories in a creative laboratory, aiming to challenge their perceptions and create something new and unique, stated Casa Varela in a communiqué.
From his artistic interaction with Rui Reininho, Leonardo Pinto shared with Lusa agency that he primarily hopes to “learn from the process.”
“I hope to create an interesting show where the duality of experiences and ages will culminate in different influences and methods. We’ll see how it goes.”
For the young musician from Pombal, who released his debut album “Nothingness” in 2024, working with someone like Rui Reininho, “who has done and continues to do so much for Portuguese music,” is an honor.
The GNR frontman “is an unmissable figure.”
“Personally, I really like his solo work: ‘20,000 Éguas Submarinas,’ in collaboration with Paulo Borges,” said Leonardo Pinto, who plans to seize the opportunity to “explore and discover this spiritual, experimental, and challenging side of Rui Reininho.”
For the artistic residency, Rui Reininho and Leonardo Pinto also invited Rita Braga. The outcome of this encounter will be unveiled at the Municipal Auditorium of Pombal on November 28 and 29.
This is just one of five artistic residencies taking place at Casa Varela in November.
Starting today, “Bombazine em agosto,” an initiative by Materiais Diversos – Fios do Meio, runs until November 3, with a presentation on November 2 at the Municipal Auditorium of Pombal.
From November 4 to 16, the Concorda company establishes itself at Casa Varela to develop ‘La nuit du cirque 2025 – ConcorDanças.’
The event is a tribute to Portuguese popular culture through “a dialogue between traditional dances, regional costumes, and popular sounds with contemporary circus languages, such as juggling, acrobatics, physical theatre, and object manipulation,” announced Casa Varela.
The public presentation is on November 16 at Praça do Marquês in Pombal.
Subsequently, Casa Varela welcomes Coletivo Fontes, which will work with the local community to reimagine the experimental film “Koyaanisqatsi” (2982) by American filmmaker Godfrey Reggio.
The project will run from November 17 to 23 and will lead to the audiovisual spectacle ‘Eclipse: Reimagined,’ to be presented at the Municipal Auditorium on November 22.
Finally, Baleia & Mente de Cão arrive in Pombal to prepare ‘Curupira – Ternura selvagem’ from November 26 to 29, a performance where theatre, dance, circus, and music artists explore the universality of the forest and its ties to humanity.
‘Curupira – Ternura selvagem’ will be staged at Teatro-Cine de Pombal on November 28 and 29.
