
The leader of the Livre party expressed on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the urgency for the Portuguese government and the European Union to identify the causes of the current crisis and, importantly, communicate safety instructions to the public.
“It is essential for everyone to maintain the necessary calm and attention to follow the guidance that will be issued by authorities, civil protection, and security forces,” he added.
The present situation is marked by “uncertainty,” Rui Tavares continues in the post, warning that it is already being exploited for the “spread of misinformation.” He urged everyone to “share only information confirmed by credible sources.”
The Livre leader also expressed his “full availability for whatever is necessary to restore normality.”
REN — Redes Energéticas Nacionais confirmed today a widespread power outage affecting the entire Iberian Peninsula and parts of French territory and reported that plans to restore energy supply in stages are being activated.
The blackout was recorded at 11:30 AM Lisbon time.
The Prime Minister stated today his expectation that electricity supply could be restored “in the coming hours,” noting that the blackout affecting mainland territory did not originate in Portugal and did not specify potential causes.
“We expect that starting from the Castelo de Bode and Tapada do Outeiro power plants, the entire electricity production system in Portugal can be activated, and that in the coming hours Portuguese citizens can see their connections restored,” declared Luís Montenegro to journalists during a Council of Ministers meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Lisbon.
