“I would say that for many people these are the most important elections, because the problems we see every day, which affect us daily—from the pothole on the sidewalk to the crosswalk that prevents a tragedy and solves a problem without us realizing it when things go well—those everyday issues in our villages, towns, cities, neighborhoods, streets, are resolved or not in these elections, for four years,” stated Rui Tavares.
The leader of Livre spoke to journalists shortly after voting at station number 6 in the Gil Vicente Basic and Secondary School, located in the parish of São Vicente, Lisbon.
Tavares argued that due to the significance of local governments in addressing everyday issues, voting in these elections “has a very direct, very practical, and very concrete impact on people’s lives, and no one should abstain from participating.”
