Musician Rui Veloso will perform on June 1 at the Coimbra Queima das Fitas, joining a line-up that already includes Slow J, Excesso, Nininho Vaz Maia and Mike Towers, among others.

The author of “Chico Fininho” and “Porto Covo” is the latest addition to the line-up for this year’s Queima das Fitas de Coimbra, which will take place at Praça da Canção between May 24 and June 1, the organization announced today in a press release sent to the Lusa news agency.

The musician will be performing on Old Students’ Day at the Queima das Fitas, which aims to promote socializing among former students of the University of Coimbra at Praça da Canção, while also collecting donations for the António Luís Gomes Social Action Fund for extraordinary support for students in vulnerable socio-economic situations.

On that day, the Portuguese boy band Excesso, who had a career between 1997 and 2002, will also be performing at the Queima das Fitas.

Also confirmed for the Queima’s main stage are Slow J, the Portuguese rapper who released “Afro Fado” in 2023 (May 30), Mike Towers, a Puerto Rican musician with a career in Latin trap (May 27), and the singer Nininho Vaz Maia (May 25).

The Praça da Canção stage, also known as the “Queimódromo” during the student festival, will feature Brazilian rapper and composer Matuê, in a line-up that includes several names from the Portuguese hip-hop and rap scene in addition to Slow J, such as Dillaz, ProfJam and Lon3r Johny.

This year’s line-up also includes a Linkin Park tribute band, Cape Verdean artist Soraia Ramos and Brazilian pagode band Menos é Mais.

In 2023, the Queima das Fitas organization increased the maximum capacity of the venue from 20,000 to 25,000 people.

One-off tickets can be purchased on the BOL digital platform.
