Ryanair asks the Government to avoid “frightening” queues at the airport

The airline called upon Minister Pinto Luz today to ensure that Lisbon airport’s border control is properly staffed so that families with small children are not subjected to ‘scary’ Halloween-like queues, as happened this summer, it stated in a communiqué.

In the same statement, Ryanair emphasized that Lisbon was the worst airport in the country for delays this summer, due to a lack of staff, leading to queues of up to two and a half hours.

Ryanair’s Director of Communications, Jade Kirwan, stated in the communiqué that the waiting lines were “completely unacceptable,” causing inconvenience to passengers and harming the country’s reputation.

On Monday, the Portuguese Tourism Confederation (CTP) expressed being “very concerned” about delays and long queues at Lisbon airport and is seeking explanations from the Minister of Internal Administration.

The CTP mentioned in a communiqué that it is “in constant contact with the Government, with a meeting already scheduled with the Minister of Internal Administration to demand clarifications on what is happening at Lisbon airport, specifically due to failures in the new European automated border control system.”

The confederation representing companies in the tourism sector reiterated that these “constant” problems at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, recurring since May, “undermine the image of national tourism and the country in general.”
