
The PSP concluded an operation with a total of 2,962 arrests related to road crimes: 1,505 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 1,457 for driving without a legal license.
The aim of the operation was to enhance “the sense of security” in beach, tourist, and commercial areas, nightlife districts, residential zones, and main roads, especially those leading to beaches.
A total of 478 suspects were arrested for property crimes (theft, robbery, and fraud), and 616 were apprehended for drug trafficking, with over 345,083 individual doses seized.
“We highlight the seizure of 861 weapons, including 328 firearms and 349 bladed weapons,” the PSP stated in a communiqué.
Over the three-month span of the operation, the PSP inspected 167,784 drivers and monitored 543,228 vehicles with radar, recording 55,991 traffic violations, including 9,187 for speeding.
Additionally, there were 5,486 breaches for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 2,062 for lack of civil liability insurance, 914 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 1,453 for using a mobile phone while driving.
During this period, there were 14,410 accidents, resulting in 4,969 injuries (237 serious and 4,732 minor injuries) and 18 fatalities, according to released data.
In the context of airport security, the PSP reported the following outcomes: 6,669,337 passengers controlled, 10,545 interceptions, 4,651 precautionary measures detected, 87 arrests, 36 international protection requests, 14 document fraud cases, 15 coercive repatriation processes, 41 judicial expulsions, 28 international escorts, and 38 national escorts.
