The vessel was about half a nautical mile (approximately 900 meters) from the port entrance.
This Wednesday, the Póvoa de Varzim Life Saving Station helped four crew members aboard a sailboat that was in difficulty at the entrance to the port of Vila do Conde. The boat, which was about half a nautical mile (approximately 900 meters) from the port entrance, was towed away.
“The alert was given by the skipper of the sailboat himself at 4.35pm,” said the National Maritime Authority in a note published on Facebook. The crew of the Póvoa de Varzim Life Saving Station were immediately mobilized.
Once on the scene, the rescuers found that “the four crew members on board were physically well, with no need for medical assistance” and that the boat had a broken rudder. The boat was eventually towed away.
“The owner has been notified and will only be able to sail again after being inspected, in order to ensure normal sailing conditions,” said the National Maritime Authority.
