In a statement released on its website, Santander announced a restructuring plan aimed at better meeting the changing needs of its customers. This plan involves the closure of several branches.
Out of the 349 remaining service locations, 290 will be full-time branches, 36 will operate on reduced hours, 18 will serve as service points without a counter, and five will be work cafés.
“These areas will be covered by new community bankers from Santander, who will provide monetary management services and general support to customers. They will visit local communities weekly and participate in local banking centers,” the bank stated.
Additionally, Santander’s plan includes a staffing reduction, with 750 employees “at risk of redundancy.”
Despite the downsizing of its branch network, the bank highlighted that 93% of the UK population “will remain within 10 miles [16.1 kilometers] of a Santander branch.”
