
A fatal traffic accident occurred late Tuesday morning on June 24th on the A1 motorway in Santarém, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to four others, one of whom is in serious condition, confirmed Notícias ao Minuto from the Santarém Rescue Operations Command (CDOS).
A report from Rede Regional revealed the deceased is believed to be a woman aged between 70 and 80.
Notícias ao Minuto also confirmed that among the injured is a child, who was airlifted in critical condition to Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon. The child’s age has not yet been determined.
The crash, which occurred in the south-north direction near the Santarém service area, also resulted in three minor injuries, with the victims transported by ambulance to the district hospital.
The alert for the accident was raised at 12:22 PM. On the scene were 17 personnel, five road vehicles, an air medical helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), firefighters, the National Republican Guard (GNR), and Brisa.
The accident led to the temporary closure of the A1 motorway in the Santarém – Torres Novas direction to facilitate victim assistance.
