The concert is scheduled to start at 9:30 PM at the Fábrica de Santo Thyrso, revisiting the legacy of maestro Carlos Paredes and his influence, offering the audience a “unique and immersive experience,” emphasized Óscar Flecha, artistic director of FIGST, in the press release.
The tribute promises “an engaging experience, where music and images will unite to celebrate the creativity, innovation, and timeless spirit of Carlos Paredes, in the year that the renowned Portuguese guitarist—who brought new worlds and global stages to the Portuguese guitar—would have turned 100,” the release stated.
“This is the recital in which the Australian virtuoso Ken Murray will evoke one of the greatest names in Portuguese artistic soundscapes of the past century,” it continued.
The International Guitar Festival of Santo Tirso runs from October 15 to 19 and will feature a film by Joaquim Pavão (director, composer, and guitarist) adding a unique visual dimension to the tribute, as mentioned in the press release.
During the tribute, Ken Murray will perform works such as ‘Hiraeth’ by Stephen Goss and his compositions, which engage with the tradition of the Portuguese guitar and explore new sonic thresholds, the press note revealed.
The concert program of the festival kicks off on October 15 with ‘O Gajo,’ an artistic project by guitarist João Morais, who will present his latest album focused on the viola campaniça, a thread that weaves together tradition and experimentation.
The following day, the stage will host, in the afternoon, the award-winning Tiago Matias, renowned for presenting a baroque and contemporary repertoire and, in the evening, the Italian duo Duosfera, featuring Daniele Fabio and Giulio Tampalini, who innovatively blend classical and contemporary sounds, the press release explained.
On October 17, the festival welcomes the internationally renowned Spanish guitarist Marcos Díaz, and the globally recognized Cuban master Joaquín Clerch, followed by an evening performance on October 18 by Ken Murray, an Australian guitarist acclaimed for interpreting contemporary music.
The festival concludes the next day with French guitarist Antoine Boyer and South Korean harmonica player Yeore Kim in a unique encounter between the guitar and harmonica, reflecting the spirit of confluences that inspire this edition, the statement added.
