The Azores Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) announced the arrest of a 46-year-old man in the municipality of Lagoa, on São Miguel Island, under suspicion of domestic violence. The man is suspected of threatening to kill his wife and minor children using spearfishing guns and other weapons.
The PSP stated that the arrest warrant was executed with utmost urgency to protect the family from potential harm.
During the investigation, authorities swiftly located and confiscated several items that the suspect allegedly used to commit the criminal acts against his family, according to the police source.
The suspect was brought before a judicial hearing where he was subjected to several pre-trial conditions, including mandatory bi-weekly check-ins at the local police station, a ban on contacting the victims, a restriction on approaching within 200 meters of the victims and their residence, and electronic monitoring to ensure compliance with these measures, as per police reports.
