A 22-year-old man was arrested in Santarém on suspicion of sexually abusing a seven-year-old child at a school in the district where he had been working for five months, announced the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in a statement on Friday.
Investigators reported that the crime took place on June 16 during an extracurricular activity, with the victim being coerced into sexual acts “partially witnessed by other children.”
Upon returning home, the child disclosed the incident to her family, who subsequently reported it to the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
The PJ was immediately activated, leading to the suspect’s arrest on the same day.
The detainee, who was also involved in a sports-related activity and had contact with other children, has since been brought to the first judicial interrogation. He is now subjected to various coercive measures, including a ban on contacting the victim, prohibition from roles involving contact with minors, restriction from contacting children under 15 years, and a requirement to change his residence.
