A man was engaging in spearfishing with two friends but failed to return to shore at the agreed time, according to a police statement.
The search operations were halted “at the beginning of the evening without finding the victim” and are set to resume on Thursday morning, the statement added.
The AMN previously informed about the start of the search following an alert at 16:09 by the fisherman’s friends.
“Searches were immediately initiated at the location by crew members from the Sagres Lifeboat Station, elements of the local command of the Lagos Maritime Police, and a drones team from the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters,” the AMN stated.
The search efforts were coordinated by the port captain and local commander of the Lagos Maritime Police, with underwater search efforts conducted by the Water Rescue Intervention Unit (UNISA) of the Algarve Firefighters, added the same source.
