A report was made by the wife of the missing French citizen, last seen in the water, according to Douro maritime authority commander Rui Lampreia. The couple had arrived at the Douro estuary as part of a sailing trip.
The search efforts, extending until 7:30 p.m., involve divers from Vila Nova de Gaia’s emergency unit and maritime police officers, added Rui Lampreia.
The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority’s website mentions that, as of 6:35 p.m., 14 operatives supported by five vehicles were participating in the search.
The commander stated that if the body is not found, searches will resume on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
