Searches continue for the missing children at Praia do Pedrógão.

The AMN reported that search operations involve crews from the Nazaré and Figueira da Foz Lifeboat Stations and the Portuguese Navy vessel “Viana do Castelo” by sea.

On land, the searches are being conducted by members of the Nazaré Maritime Police Local Command, assisted by a drone, and an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force will also be deployed.

The searches are being coordinated by João Lourenço, the captain of the port and local commander of the Nazaré Maritime Police.

According to AMN, the minors, two siblings, vanished after allegedly bathing at Pedrógão Beach, which is not yet monitored at this time of year.

The Psychological Office of the Maritime Police continues to support the family.

The disappearance of the children, two siblings, was reported at 17:25 on Sunday via the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, prompting searches by sea, land, and air.

On Monday, João Lourenço told the Lusa agency that the children, who were with their family, entered the water and were swept away by a wave.

Céline Gaspar, president of the Monte Redondo and Carreira Union of Parishes, stated that the family, comprised of four minors and their grandmother, has lived in Monte Redondo since January.

Gaspar noted that three minors attend Colégio Dr. Luís Pereira da Costa and one attends the Monte Redondo School Center, adding that, according to her information, the parents are emigrants in Canada.

In a press release issued Monday, the Leiria City Council expressed its concern and dismay over the children’s disappearance.

“In this moment of anguish, we want to express our total solidarity with the family and friends of the children, as well as with the educational community of Monte Redondo, where the minors have studied and lived since January.”

The municipality reinforced the appeal to the public to adopt preventive behavior, especially in unmonitored areas.
