The search efforts resumed around 8:00 AM using land, sea, and an aerial unit from the Spanish Guardia Civil, according to a source from the Alto Minho Sub-Regional Command.
The National Maritime Authority stated that the search operations, coordinated by the Captain of the Port and the Local Commander of the Caminha Maritime Police, involve personnel from the Port Authority and the Local Maritime Police Command of Caminha, the “SeaWatch” project, the Portuguese Navy vessel NRP Figueira da Foz, resources from the Spanish Guardia Civil, and members of the Volunteer Firefighters of Caminha and Vila Praia de Âncora.
A statement added that when conditions allow, a technical team from the Hydrographic Institute and members of the Maritime Police’s Forensic Diving Group will be deployed for underwater searches.
It was ascertained that “the victim, a 62-year-old man, was engaging in recreational fishing on a vessel when, for unknown reasons, it capsized, resulting in his disappearance at sea,” the National Maritime Authority explained.
The Maritime Police’s Psychology Office continues to provide support to the victim’s family.
