
The search for a 62-year-old man who disappeared last Wednesday after falling from a yacht moored at Douro Marina, in Vila Nova de Gaia, was suspended again on Sunday evening without locating the victim.
The French national fell from a yacht on Wednesday, November 20.
According to a statement from the National Maritime Authority, the operations were coordinated by the Port Captain and Local Commander of the Douro Maritime Police. Participants in the search included crew members from the Douro Lifeboat Station and personnel from the Douro Local Maritime Police Command and the Vila Nova de Gaia Fire Department.
The operations were halted in the evening, with the victim still unaccounted for. From tomorrow, searches will continue as part of the daily patrol activities carried out by the National Maritime Authority.
The AMN reported that the man was performing maintenance work on the yacht when he fell into the water.
On Thursday, Rui Lampreia, the Douro Harbor Master, stated that the missing man’s wife alerted authorities after he was last seen in the water.
The couple had arrived at the Douro estuary as part of their yacht journey.
